(WAVY) — Residents and local crews prepared for a second round of winter weather that made its way into our region starting Friday afternoon/night and going into Saturday morning, after both rain and snowflakes came through Thursday night.

Those preparations proved to be useful as snow fell across the region on Friday night into Saturday.

Temperatures dropped into Thursday evening and brought in a wintry mix, with some light snow accumulation. It made for some slick roads in places.

Snowflakes started back up Friday afternoon.

The most snow came down Friday evening and continued overnight before winding down early Saturday morning. The amount of snowfall varies by city, but some areas in Hampton Roads and northeast North Carolina saw 4-7 inches. Some WAVY viewers report 8 inches or more.

VDOT and municipal crews treated area roads and had plows out all weekend for snow removal.

Many localities, schools and services were impacted by the impending inclement weather. Some events are canceled and many schools are canceling or delaying classes.
