NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Three people were arrested nearly three months after a woman was shot in the head in her home on Marshall Avenue in Newport News.

The woman’s wound was initially considered life-threatening after the shooting on Dec. 11, 2018, but it was downgraded to “non-life-threatening” and she was later released from the hospital.

Police were looking for a male wanted in connection to the case.

On Feb. 26, 2019, police announced that 39-year-old Anthony Lamont Bradley was arrested by the Newport News Police Department’s Fugitive Apprehension Unit and Criminal Intelligence Unit, along with U.S. Marshals.

He was charged with maliciously shooting, stabbing, with the intent to mam, kill; use or display of a firearm while committing a felony; possession or transportation of firearms, ammunition, stun weapons, explosives; concealed weapons by a convicted felon and discharging firearms or missiles within or at a building or dwelling house.

Then on March 8, 2019, Newport News police arrested two more suspects in connection to the incident — 19-year-old Jada Sessoms, of Norfolk, and 39-year-old Laishi Goodman, of the 1200 block of Hampton Avenue in Newport News.

Police say Sessoms was charged with two counts of malicious wounding and use of a firearm in commission of a felony. Goodman was charged with three counts of malicious wounding and use of firearm in the commission of a felony.

“We’re grateful for the combined efforts of all those involved that resulted in the identification and apprehension of a violent suspect,” said Chief of Police Steve Drew in the release.

On May 16, 2019, court records show that Sessoms’ and Goodman’s charges were dismissed. Bradley had all but one charged certified to a grand jury.

Then on July 10, 2020, Bradley was sentenced to 48 years with 33 years suspended (serving 15 years).
