(WAVY) — The remnants of Tropical Storm Debby rolling through parts of northeastern North Carolina and Hampton Roads prompted numerous tornado warnings Thursday afternoon, but so far, few reports of damages or power outages.

In Suffolk, a tree fell on top of a car on Route 58 west near Route 460. Suffolk Fire & Rescue said there were two minor injuries resulting from the incident. Suffolk Police also responded to the scene. A city official said the road reopened as of 6:25 p.m.

A detour had been in place diverting traffic to Route 10/Godwin Boulevard.

In Gates County, more than 700 Dominion Energy customers were without power as a result of the storm, and its crews have been dispatched to the area. Silver Springs Road was blocked due to a tree down in the roadway.

Gates County Sheriff Ray Campbell said a large tree limb on Route 32 North has taken down three phases of power lines, and Corapeake is without power at this time.

In James City County, an official said there was a downed Cox utility line at the intersection of Howard Drive and Jackson Street. James City County Police is advising people exercise “extreme caution” as it is responding to multiple crashes and dealing with downed utility lines. It asked residents to call 911 immediately if they encounter roadway debris or hazards.

A number of areas were under tornado warnings Thursday afternoon, including the city of Suffolk, Isle of Wight County and Southampton County in Hampton Roads, and Sunbury, Gates, Camden, Chowan and Perquimans counties in North Carolina.

An additional tornado warning was issued just after 4 p.m. for Isle of Wight County, Surry County and James City County until 4:45 p.m. And a tornado warning was issued for Prince George, Sussex and Surry Counties until 6 p.m.

The Virginia Department of Transportation said drivers could expect delays at the Jamestown Scotland Ferry due to an incident, and it said the ferry has stopped operating at this time due to the weather. It suggested drivers use the Interstate 664 Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel, the James River Bridge or the Benjamin Harrison Memorial Bridge as alternate routes.
