Paint 757 Purple: Wear purple, donate on Oct. 17 for domestic violence awareness

As families prepare to come together to celebrate winter festivities and the end of the year, domestic violence shelters in Hampton Roads are preparing for an increase in calls.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Don’t forget to wear purple on Thursday, October 17 and help Paint 757 Purple for domestic violence awareness.

This year marks the 8th annual Paint 757 Purple, the annual fundraiser for the Samaritan House in Virginia Beach.

You can help by patronizing participating businesses in the region, who’ll donate a percentage of their sales on October 17 to the Samaritan House. Local businesses are also offering special purple-themed products and specials, “rounding up purchases,” and more to help.

In 2023, more than $58,000 was raised by nearly 40 business to help victims of domestic violence, Samaritan House says.

“During October, we take the time to remember those impacted by domestic violence, raise awareness, and bring the community together,” said Robin Gauthier, Samaritan House’s executive director. “And for the eighth year, we are excited to have so many returning and new businesses participate in Paint 757 Purple. Be sure to wear purple this Thursday to commemorate National Wear Purple Day and patronize our partner’s businesses that support our mission.”
