PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — This year marks six years of the Break the Cycle series at WAVY with 10 On Your Side Anchor and Reporter Kiahnna Patterson.

Every Wednesday, we are working with the Hampton Roads Show, which airs weekdays at 11 a.m. on WAVY TV 10, to highlight five different nonprofit organizations and shelters in the region.

As we learn of additional events, we will post the information below:

  • September 25: Domestic Violence Awareness Month kick off at the Newport News Police Department Headquarters.
  • October 1: Candlelight vigil at Newport News City Hall at 2 p.m.
  • October 5: Day of Unity: A Celebration of Life from 12 p.m. – 3 p.m. at Peninsula Town Center
  • October 7: Day of Unity: Night of Remembrance at 7 p.m. inside Slover Library in Norfolk
  • October 11: Women Against Violence Luncheon at 11:30 a.m. inside of the Westin Virginia Beach Town Center
  • October 12: Fast and Funky 5K at Matteson Trail in Hampton at 8:30 a.m.
  • October 17: Samaritan House’s Paint 757 Purple
  • October 20: Strike out Domestic Violence Bowling Fundraiser
  • October 21: Domestic Violence Information Session at 11 a.m. inside the Aqueduct Gym
  • October 23: Newport News Police Department walk to end Domestic Violence at 5 p.m.
  • October 28: Domestic Violence Information Session at 11 a.m. inside Marshall Courts Recreation
  • October 30: Domestic Violence Information Session at 11 a.m. inside Pinecroft Apartments

All month, the Genevie Shelter in the Western Tidewater area is challenging supporters to donate a ‘Dollar-a-Day.’

The Newport News Police Department Domestic Violence Team is sponsoring a donation drive to benefit Transitions Family Violence Services. Suggested items and drop off locations are listed below:
