NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Two days after Debby made landfall in Florida as a hurricane, some passengers at the Norfolk International Airport (ORF) were feeling the impact, but many said their flights are on time and they hope it stays that way.
While many of the Wednesday flights are shown as being on time, many of the passengers are on day two of traveling. Some people we spoke with tried flying out on Tuesday, but delays had them stuck in town overnight. Others were told they will not be able to fly out until Friday.
Two United flights from Newark and Dulles landed in ORF Wednesday morning after an eight-hour delay. Passengers told us there were flight attendant staffing issues in Dulles, and weather issues causing the Newark delay.
We spoke with a Portsmouth man who flew in from Philadelphia early Wednesday morning. Michael Green was thankful his flight to Norfolk was among the few on time departures, but he saw lines packing the Philadelphia airport with people whose flights were canceled and delayed. He is happy that his flight was not one of them.
“I was hearing that there was a lot of canceled flight,” Green recalled. “People were at ticket counters, trying to find out whatever arrangements they could get made or whatever. But I was worried at first, I thought, well if my flight is going to get canceled, maybe I’ll have to get a rental car or something.”
For travelers planning to hit the roads later this week, the forecast is showing potentially treacherous roads towards the south and west throughout the next couple of days. Experts are urging drivers to remain cautious while on the roads.
