HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Hampton Police have charged a man with second-degree murder in connection to a shooting last month on Catalpa Avenue, police said.

The Hampton Police Division, with help from the U.S. Marshal’s Service, arrested Ahsan Javor Phillips Wednesday without incident and served outstanding warrants not only on the second-degree murder charge, but also on charges of possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony, willful discharge of a firearm in public and reckless handling.

Around 12:30 p.m. May 19, police dispatch got a call in reference to a shooting in the 300 block of Catalpa Avenue.

There, officers found a 38-year-old man, later identified as Derrick A. Lindsay, lying in the road with multiple gunshot wounds, police said, and was later pronounced dead.
