HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — A man is dead after a Sunday afternoon shooting in Hampton, according to police.

Around 12:30 p.m. dispatch received a call in reference to a shooting on the 300 block of Catalpa Avenue.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found a 38-year-old man lying in the road with multiple gunshot wounds. He was later pronounced dead by Hampton EMS crew members. On Monday, police identified the victim as Derrick A. Lindsay of Hampton.

The Hampton Police Division, with the assistance of the United States Marshal’s Service, has arrested Ahsan Javor Phillips.

Phillips was taken into custody on June 26 without incident and served the outstanding warrants on second-degree murder, possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony, willful discharge of a firearm in public and reckless handling. 

This incident is under investigation by the Hampton Police Major Crimes Unit.
