Ellington 125: The Attucks Jazz Orchestra Celebrates Duke Ellington’s 125th Birthday

Saturday, May 18 at 7:30 p.m. at the Attucks Theatre

Celebrate the music-legend’s birthday with a special night at the Attucks Theatre. Listen to the renowned jazz music by a16-piece jazz orchestra, showcasing local, regional and national artists. Todd Stoll is the director of the show, featuring vocalist Catherine Russell and tenor saxophone soloist Walter Blanding. The performance will showcase 50 years of Ellington’s works. Glow Ride VIII

Friday, May 17 at 8 p.m. starting at The Plot, 776 Granby Street

Take a 5-mile ride starting in the NEON District for Bike Month. Starting at 8 p.m. meet at the Plot to get ready. Make sure to wear your best glow in the dark clothes, bike decorations, gear, gloves or hoes. Flashing lights and glow sticks are also encouraged! Free Bike month t-shirts will be available. The ride will begin at 8:30 p.m.

No registration is required for the event. It is free and open to riders of all ages and levels. Check with a volunteer to find a shorter route, if needed. Please note, children 14 years and younger are required to wear a helmet. Helmets are encouraged for all ages.

AMA 2024 (Art, Music and Awareness)

Sunday, May 19 from 6-9 p.m. at Assembly, 400 Granby Street

The evening will be full of creativity, music and conversations by Kbana Blaq. It is hosted by the Urban League of Hampton Roads, Nicole Events and more. Hear from artists, musicians and speakers. Be motivated hearing about their work raising awareness for important causes. There will be live music and DJ performances. Food will be provided by Kitchen Boyz VA. The City of Virginia Beach presents All Roads Lead to Home. The play is family-friendly, and will take the audience on a journey through stories, music and some Shakespeare. According to the event, the show runs 45-minutes. Throughout the time, you will travel around the world and back. It will reflect on “there’s truly no place like home”. Pungo Offroad Monsters on the Beach

May 17-19 at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront at 6th Street on the sand

It’s the 25th year of the Pungo Offroad Monsters on the Beach show presented by Eastern Truck & Accessories. Watch as monster trucks take on a race and stun course right on the beach. Fan can watch the action from the bleachers overlooking the boardwalk. Your favorite Monster Trucks are back like “Stone Crusher”, “Hooked”, “Illuminator” and more. “Virginia Giant” is back at Virginia Beach after more than 15 years.
