NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The Virginia Zoo is celebrating World Turtle Day this Saturday as a part of their Party for the Planet event.
The event is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. through 2 p.m. May 18, and is free to attend with a purchase of a general zoo admission ticket.
Party for the Planet will feature activities including Keeper Chats, animal pop-ups and the Virginia Zoo’s annual plant sale, all in an effort to show new ways to support conservation efforts.
During the event, the zoo will also celebrate the grand opening of their Turtle Oasis, an exhibit dedicated to the conservation of the American freshwater turtle. Visitors will be able to learn turtle-related facts from reptile keepers and meet some of the turtle and tortoise ambassadors.
From noon to 2 p.m., visitors will be able to help prepare enrichment and animal diets as a part of the Browse Party, located in the pavilion.
