Blog: Wet Weather With Bouncing Temps

Today’s temperatures are on the downswing.  It is chilly, but it won’t last long.  Temperatures are definitely bouncing over the next few days.  With the cold and warm air oscillating north and south, we will get some rain showers between the clashing air masses.   Today for instance….we had some colder air in the region.  High pressure was sliding east (offshore).  Some moisture was trying to chase that in the upper levels.

We had some sprinkles, light showers, and sleet pellets in the region this morning, but there wasn’t much.

We’ll be partly to mostly cloudy today with the majority of the day favoring more clouds.  Temps started off near 40 degrees. We’ll only rise to the low-mid 40s this afternoon.  Northeast winds were blowing at 10-15mph with gusts to 20mph.  This chilly wind will hold the temps down as well as the cloud cover.  We will see a few more showers coming back later today.

The rain showers will increase during the evening commute.  We will dry out a little after midnight.  Tomorrow looks fairly quiet for most of the day.  However, we’ll have some rain showers moving in later in the day.  Probably after 3pm for most.

This will impact Valentine’s Day.  The scattered showers will continue into the evening.  the good news is that it will be a little warmer.  High temps will be in the 50s.

By Thursday we’ll really warm up.  With a strong southwesterly breeze our high temps will be able to reach up into the low 70s. The models show a few showers in the morning, but drier conditions in the afternoon.  By Friday a cold front will move into the region.  We’ll be warm to start the day.  Highs temps will probably reach up to near 70 by the midday.  Then temps will drop in the afternoon.  Also rain showers will move into the region with the front.  We’ll be chilly again on Saturday.  Highs will be in the 40s.  There will be a few showers possible.  Warmer temps will already try to push back by Sunday.  During that push, the GFS model shows a large area of rain Saturday night into early Sunday morning.  I’ll bet the timing for that will change.  So stay tuned for updates.  For now high temps look like they will get into the 50s on Sunday.  60s and more rain on Monday.

In world news….There have been a lot of stories lately about snow.  It has definitely made some headlines.  Reports of record snow keep coming in.  Here is an article that summarizes a few of these recent snow events: Snow around the world.
