Blog: Roller coaster ride of a week

Eyes are focused on a big cool down later this week across the region to really make it feel late-November or early-December! Our next frontal system is set to move in on Wednesday to shake things up, and in the process, give us another chance at some rainfall. It’s a good ol’ fashioned Hampton Roads roller coaster ride!

Today is pretty simple… mix of sun and clouds and pretty warm by the afternoon. Temperatures crawl out of the 40s this morning and eventually get into the mid & upper 60s. In the sun it’ll feel close to 70°. Tomorrow should be pretty similar in terms of temperatures, but clouds will be on the increase by the afternoon and evening. An isolated shower or two is possible by the late night hours as we await our Wednesday shake up.

The frontal system off towards our west slides into the region in two phases… first, a stationary front wiggling in will provide some scattered showers overnight Tuesday to Wednesday morning. Second, the trailing cold front blasts into the region Wednesday night and will throw us another round of scattered showers.

Behind the cold front, of course, comes the cold air. Temperatures will plummet from nearly 70° on Wednesday to the 50s on Thursday. Some stubborn clouds and a stray shower or two is possible both Thursday and Friday as the cold air settles in. The chilly breeze will pin our highs in the 50s from Thursday through the weekend!

This cold shot will even throw some snow showers on the mountains in West Virginia and western parts of the commonwealth. Here in Hampton Roads, it should help make it feel more like winter.
