Blog: Blah Weather, But At Least It’s Warmer!

Yesterday’s weather was just plain crud!  It was cold, it was rainy, it was breezy.   Today the weather is still fairly blah, but at least we will be warming up.

We started the morning with clouds, drizzle, and some fog.

Temps were near 40 degrees.  Luckily I don’t think the rest of the day will be as crummy!  It is Valentine’s Day afterall.

We have an area of high pressure off to our northeast.  It is offshore.  It is still shifting offshore a bit more today.   This is letting the surface winds turn out of the southwest.

We’ll still see quite a bit of clouds through the day with some peeks of sun, but the southwest wind will warm us up.  High temps will rise to the upper 50s. There will be a few 60s in North Carolina.

Winds will be out of the southwest at 5-10mph.  We may see an isolated shower this afternoon, but the chance for rain is only 20%.  This evening we’ll see much of the same.  Lots of clouds.  Some isolated showers or sprinkles in the region.  Temps will fall to the 40s.  By tomorrow the wind will increase out of the southwest.  It will run at 10-15mph with gusts to 20mph.  We’ll have a mix of sun and clouds.  There may be an isolated shower or two, but the models really backed off of the rain chances recently.  So it might turn out to be a really nice day.  High temps will jump to the low 70s.

Forecast Temps (Tomorrow)

We’ll stay warm on Friday.  Highs will be in the low 70s again.  The first half of the day looks pretty good. However, some rain is expected during the afternoon and evening as a cold front enters the region.  Temps may fall in the afternoon after the front arrives.  Temps will fall to the low 40s Friday night.  On Saturday temps will barely rise.  We’ll start off in the low 40s.  High temps will only rise to the mid 40s.  The models show rain moving back into the region later in the day.  The timing could change on that.  So stay tuned.  The models show a big area of rain Saturday evening into Saturday night.  However, they kick most of the rain out by Sunday morning.  High temps on Sunday will actually rise into the 50s. Stay tuned for updates.

In world news… a strong tropical cyclone recently hit the island of Tonga in the South Pacific ocean.  This was a category 4 storm.  It has caused a lot of damage to the small island.  Here is a link to an article with more information. Tonga Cyclone.

In another recent article…It seems that the ozone layer is thinning over populated areas despite some recent improvements over the poles.  Here is that article with more information: Ozone layer update.
