Rookie Jayden Daniels named Washington’s starting quarterback

ASHBURN, Va. (WAVY) — The Jayden Daniels era has officially begun for Washington.

The 2023 Heisman winner and No. 2 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft was named the Commanders’ starting quarterback on Monday.

The announcement wasn’t necessarily a surprise, but Daniels still had to beat out former Tennessee and Atlanta starting QB Marcus Mariota for the gig.

“We knew we would get here, but we were just excited to see how we would,” said Washington head coach Dan Quinn on Monday.

The 23-year-old takes over for a Washington team that finished in last place in the NFC East last season at 4-13. He’s one of several new pieces the franchise added in the offseason, including Quinn.
