VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — City offices at the Virginia Beach Municipal Center will be closed Monday in the wake of a mass shooting that left 12 people dead.
City Manager Dave Hansen announced the closure in a news conference Sunday morning, noting that Building 2 — where the shooting happened — will be closed indefinitely.
All public schools and courts will operate on a normal schedule on Monday.
Authorities said the gunman was a longtime city employee.
Hansen said in Sunday’s news conference the suspect had submitted his resignation the morning of the shooting.
Hansen and Police Chief Jim Cervera confirmed he had not been fired nor was nor was in the process of being terminated from his position.
