NORFOLK (WAVY) – Old Dominion’s men’s basketball began the Mike Jones era on Monday night with an 83-82 loss to Buffalo in front of 5,455 fans at Chartway Arena.
The Monarchs trailed by 3 at the half and fell behind as many as 12 in the second half.
ODU then stormed back behind the hot-shooting of Robert Davis Jr who made 8 of 11 three-point attempts and scored a team-high 25 points.
The sophomore transfer from UMass, who was coach Jones first signed recruit, gave the Monarchs a 82-80 lead with :17 remaining,
Buffalo did not call a time out and played its possession that culminated with a corner three pointer by Tyson Dunn with 1.3 seconds left to give the Bulls a 83-82 lead.
ODU wasn’t able to execute a play as the Monarchs fall to 0-1.
Next up, a road game against No. 10 Arizona on Saturday.
