A quiet neighborhood in Norfolk experienced a nightmare on Sept. 3 of last year when a man with a rifle went on a terrifying rampage. It was a night that turned Alden Heights into a scene of chaos and fear. Ferguson roamed the streets with a fully-loaded AR-style rifle. By the time the night was over, he had pointed that weapon at multiple neighbors and fired a shot into a car. Twenty-eight-year-old Daniel Joseph Ferguson Jr., was sentenced to more than eight years in prison Friday, pleading guilty to a series of acts, including hate crime assault and attempted malicious wounding.

Norfolk resident Mary Roland was a traveling nanny for seven years before being let go from her job on Jan. 28, 2021.

Roland said she filed for unemployment on Feb. 6 with the Virginia Employment Commission in Norfolk that same year. It's now been three years and Roland said she's owed $12,000 in total from the VEC.
