(WAVY) — As the outer rain bands from what’s left of Debby get thrown our way, we’ll watch for some storms tonight with the potential for more thunderstorms Friday morning.
The Tornado Watch is extended until 7 a.m. Friday for the entire region, meaning the threat still remains for strong to severe thunderstorms through the overnight.
We’ve seen multiple tornado warnings already, and a few areas across town have reported damage, so be sure to stay weather aware through the night.
Thunderstorms that do develop Thursday night won’t be for everyone, but they’ll slowly increase in coverage as we approach sunrise Friday. That’s when the last gasp of Debby throws us a strong line of thunderstorms. The Friday morning commute could feature downpours and potentially damaging wind gusts.
Winds stay elevated Thursday night out of the south, then quickly shift southwest by Friday morning. This will help alleviate the minor tidal flooding concern for the Albemarle, Currituck & Back Bay Sounds. We’ll focus our main impact on the severe weather and tornadic threat.
The blustery thunderstorms Friday should be confined for the first half of the day … before conditions slowly improve. Look for some peeks of sun and some lingering showers Friday afternoon with the breeze. Temperatures should hold in the 80s.
Stubborn clouds and an isolated shower stick around Saturday, with brighter and even drier conditions on Sunday. We’ll look forward to a nice drop in humidity this weekend and into next week.
Stay weather aware tonight and early Friday morning!
