VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – A busy stretch of road in Virginia Beach will have lane closures beginning Saturday, Sept. 21.

According to a news release from the city, crews have to complete emergency milling and paving on southbound Independence Boulevard between Virginia Beach Boulevard and Columbus Street.

The work is scheduled to begin at 6:30 a.m. Saturday. They hope to have the work completed by 2 p.m. the same day. Three southbound lanes of Independence Boulevard will be closed for milling operations. The left turn lanes onto Columbus Street will also be closed to traffic.

Then, on Monday, Sept. 23, beginning at 9 p.m., three southbound lanes of Independence Boulevard will be closed for paving operations and the left turn lanes onto Columbus Street will again be closed. This closure is expected to be in place until 5 a.m. on Tuesday.

Signs will be posted alerting motorists of the lane closures.
