Top prospects Mayo, Holliday make return for Tides

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — It has to be a bit of a relief for Baltimore Orioles fans, as top prospects Coby Mayo and Jackson Holliday returned to play this week.

Coby Mayo

Mayo, who went 2-for-4 while hitting his 16th homer of the season and driving in a pair of runs, is back from a broken rib, while Holliday is still recovering from right elbow inflammation and will only play as a designated hitter for now.

Still, seeing two of the Orioles organization’s top three prospects is a welcome sight.

“Honestly, I was a little nervous at first,” Mayo said. “I didn’t know what to expect at first. Getting back was awesome and it felt great.”

Jackson Holliday

Holliday, who got a double in four at-bats as a DH in the Tides’ Wednesday loss to Charlotte, is looking forward to getting back to full strength.

“Obviously, you want to help the team win as much as possible,” Holliday said. “The goal is to be out there by the end of the week in Memphis, but if not, I’ll be out there after the All-Star break.”
