Chesapeake native Quincy Wilson, 16, to run in 4x400m relay Friday morning

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — 16-year-old Chesapeake native Quincy Wilson is getting his big break at the Olympics.

Wilson will join the men’s 4×400-meter relay team early Friday morning in its opening heat, according to multiple reports. He’ll be the youngest American male ever to participate in a track and field event at the Olympics.

Wilson asked fans on his Instagram to tune in at 5:05 a.m. Eastern time for the event.

The 5-foot-9 track sensation was added to the team’s relay pool after finishing sixth in the 400 meters at the U.S. Olympic Trials. At the trials, he broke a 42-year-old under-18 world record twice, with runs of 44.66 in round one and 44.59 in the semi-finals.

Wilson grew up in Chesapeake, but moved to Maryland during middle school for more track opportunities. His dad Roy played football at the U.S. Naval Academy, his mother played basketball and soccer collegiately, and his sister Kadence runs track at James Madison University.
