Old Dominion holds on to defeat DIII program Randolph-Macon 71-55

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Old Dominion defeated Division III Randolph-Macon 71-55 on Monday night at Chartway Arena, giving Mike Jones his second win as Monarchs head coach.

Macon is a Division III power, and after falling behind 11-0 to start the game, the Yellow Jackets closed the gap the seven at halftime.


Things didn’t start much better in the second half for the Monarchs, as Macon cut the deficit to five.

It’s extremely rare for a D-III program to defeat a D-I team, so ODU started to turn up the heat after that.

ODU ended up on the winning end, 71-55.

Sean Durugordon led the Monarchs with 17 points,, and Jaden Johnson added 13.

ODU plays Boston College Sunday in a tournament in the Cayman Islands.
