NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Since 2020, Old Dominion’s women’s soccer team has proven to not only be the elite of the Sun Belt, but also Conference USA, as the Monarchs have captured three straight conference tournament championships.

While they prepare for the season ahead and a possible third-straight Sun Belt tournament crown, they’re continuing to give back and help develop the youth soccer in the 757 through Monarch Sisters.

It’s a program that’s in its sixth year. The players run the camp, and it focuses on building a bond between the team and young girls that look up to them, or aspire to be them.

The camps stretch six weeks, and the Monarchs will then adopt a little sister to mentor and guide for the duration of the soccer season.

“It makes me want to do better just because I know that there’s someone looking up to me. I think it’s really special, and I’m always happy to see them,” said senior Monarch Yuliia Khrystiuk.

The Monarchs will open their regular season Aug. 15 at home against VCU. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
