HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — For the first time in 80 years, the Maury High School football team has won a state championship!
Maury (15-0) completed an undefeated season by defeating Stone Bridge 28-21.
Maury jumped out to a 28-0 lead, then held off Stone Bridge (12-2) to bring home the Class 5 crown.
Penn State bound Keandre Lambert scored two touchdowns for the Commodores who win the state title in football in the same year that the Maury basketball team won its first state championship since 1927.
E.J. Gibson completed 20 of his 26 pass attempts for 214 yards and two touchdowns while C.J. Beasley ran for 94 yards on 16 carries.
Lambert accounted for 135 total purpose yards for the Commodores.
