VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — It’s hard to believe that it’s already that time of year, but we’ve made it. High school football is officially back in the 757, and was headlined by the private schools on Friday night.

Starting things off in Virginia Beach, Atlantic Shores Christian (1-0) opened up its 2024 campaign with a bang after a dominant 48-0 win over Isle of Wight Academy (0-1) at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex. Quarterback Micah Lance and the Seahawks were all about the aerial threat, as they made effective work over the Chargers. They’ll continue their season against Roanoke Catholic next week at the Sportsplex.

About an hour south, across the North Carolina border, two local teams played for their first wins of the season. Norfolk Academy took on Currituck County down in Barco.

The story of the day was Bulldogs do-it-all running back, Will Foley. Foley, who had over 1,800 all-purpose yards in 2023, had a rushing, receiving and passing touchdown in Norfolk Academy’s 34-21 win over the Knights (0-1).

The Bulldogs (1-0) will take on Potomac School next week at home.
