VIRGINIA BEACH (WAVY) – When you think dynasty, regardless of sport in the entire commonwealth, Princess Anne girls basketball might just come top of mind.

That’s because in recent history the Cavaliers have dominated on the hardwood. Winning 10 of the last 11 VHSL class 5 state championships and 13 titles in 21 seasons.

Seemingly every year, the team is filled with talent top to bottom regardless of classification.

Saturday, Darnell Dozier’s group is taking on James River Midlothian at VCU’s Siegel Center at 4:30 P.M for another state championship. A win would be 14 titles in 22 seasons.

“I’m expecting us all to leave our all out on the floor,” freshman Micah Ojo said at practice on Monday. “There’s no turning back.”

Dozier, now at the helm for more than 30 years, is the marquee name across the state for girls basketball, with more than 700 wins in his career.

“I always think we can win,” he said. “My team thinks they’re going to win. People say that’s bragging. That’s not bragging that’s just being confident in what you can do.”
