DOVER, Del. (Courtesy of Norfolk State Athletics) – The Norfolk State women’s basketball team defeated Delaware State, 65-51, in the last road game of the season on Saturday in Dover, Del. at Memorial Hall for their tenth consecutive victory.
A 22-0 lead to start the game for the Spartans (22-5, 11-1 MEAC) was all they needed to vault themselves over the Hornets (8-17, 4-8 MEAC). The Spartans have won the last eight match-ups against the Hornets.
Diamond Johnson, the MEAC’s leading scorer, finished with 20 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and six steals, after having 15 in the first half. Kierra Wheeler was another double-digit scorer for the Spartans after she collected her 12th double-double of the season with 15 points and 12 rebounds.
The Spartans won in the paint with 36 of their 64 points coming in the paint.
Crystal White and Da’naijah Williams both returned after missing games due to injuries and combined for 13 points.
