Former Oscar Smith football standout Tajh Boyd died by suicide, medical examiner finds

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WAVY) – Liberty University football player Tajh Boyd, a former standout at Oscar Smith High School in Chesapeake, recently died by suicide, the medical examiner has ruled.

The Virginia Department of Health’s Western District made the announcement on Tuesday, two days after the university announced Boyd’s death.

The 6-foot-4, 315-pound lineman had just joined Liberty’s team in January, and was getting ready for his freshman season.

“We thank God for bringing Tajh into our Liberty Athletics community and we will always remember him as a Flame. Tajh will be missed dearly,” said Liberty’s athletic department in their announcement.

Liberty says it’s providing counseling support for students following Boyd’s death that students can reach at (434) 582-2651 or via studentcounselingservices@liberty.edu.
