BayPort Athlete of the Week: Tabb field hockey wins 4th-straight state title

YORKTOWN, Va. (WAVY) — Listen, there are dynasties, and then there’s Tabb field hockey, as the Tigers won their 90th straight game in taking down Poquoson 4-1 in the Class 3 state championship to capture their fourth-straight title.

The feat is even more impressive when you look a little deeper into the numbers of Tabb’s four straight championships.

The Tigers haven’t lost a single game, going 90-0 record over that four-year span while outscoring their opponents 440-10 during that time period. That winning-streaks is the longest VHSL streak across any high school sport.

Because of the Tigers’ dominance this year, MaxPreps ranked the unbeaten champs as the No. 1 high school field hockey team in the nation, but there’s a chance this team is even better next season.

Tabb is projected to return 21 players from this year’s state championship roster, including reigning Class 3 Player of the Year Kira Takahashi-Trader, currently one of the top players in the Class of 2026, and is committed to playing her collegiate-level field hockey at Penn State.

Regardless of how long the streak continues, the Tiger program is something special, and that’s something that is likely to continue for the foreseeable future.
