BayPort Athlete of the Week: First Colonial field hockey forward Rylee Brooks-Booth

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA (WAVY) — A star is born when they’re able to step into the big moment and perform.

On Tuesday night’s Region 5A championship game between First Colonial and Cox, Patriots forward Rylee Brooks-Booth did just that. In the final, Brooks-Booth tallied a goal and assist to lead the Patriots to a 2-1 win, meaning FC has now won back-to-back region titles.

“Just to be back-to-back, I couldn’t tell you the last time First Colonial went back to back,” said Patriots coach Meghan Smart. “We need to play our game. We’ve played top teams in the country this year. We know how to play great hockey, skilled hockey. We just need to keep our head on our shoulders and play our game.”

Brooks-Booth got emotional talking about playing with her FC teammates.

“It’s an amazing feeling,” Brooks-Booth said. “Second year in a row with this team, and I couldn’t be happier. … These are the memories I’ll take with me for years to come.”

Brooks-Booth currently sits at fourth in the state in goals and total points, and will attend the University of Massachusetts to play Division 1 field hockey.

Both the Patriots and Falcons will qualify for the Class 5 state tournament.
