NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A 20-year-old Newport News woman died a week after police say she was hit by a pickup truck in Newport News.

Police say the incident happened on June 6 around 11 p.m. at the intersection of 79th Street and Jefferson Avenue –in the New Market area of the city.

Police tell WAVY.com the driver of a Dodge pick-up truck hit the woman in the southbound lanes near the intersection.  Paramedics rushed the woman, identified as 20-year-old Taquila Diaz, of the 6000 block of Jefferson Avenue, to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. She died at the hospital on June 13, according to police. 

There is no word yet on whether any charges will be filed, but police are still investigation.
