Weather conditions impacting schools, garage opened in Norfolk

HAMPTON ROADS, Va. (WAVY) – The inclement weather forecast for Friday is impacting schools. Strong gusty winds, heavy rainfall and coastal flooding are expected.

WAVY.com has compiled a list of city impacts for Friday due to the weather conditions:


School Adjustments

Currituck County

Currituck County Schools will be closed to students Friday. Currituck County Schools canceled all after-school activities and programs for Friday, Nov. 15. Staff will follow Option 1 on the CCS Inclement Weather Protocols Chart on Friday.

Dare County

Dare County Schools will have a remote learning day Friday, Nov. 15. Employees will report to work as normal. Dare County Schools cancelled all after-school programs and activities for Friday, Nov. 15.

City Parking Garages Opened

Norfolk

The City of Norfolk opened the York Street Garage, located at 215 W. York St., to residents looking to move their vehicles to higher ground. The York Street Garage will remain open until Sunday, Nov. 17 at 5 p.m.

City officials urge motorists not to drive through flood waters. They also encourage the use of the Waze app, which can notify users of flooded streets.
