SUSSEX COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) – Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred early Monday morning in Sussex County.
According to officials, around 5:45 a.m., a 2004 Toyota Tacoma was headed eastbound on Cabin Point Road when the driver of the vehicle went off the right side of the road, overcorrected, went off the left side of the road and then struck a tree. Shortly afterwards, the vehicle caught fire.
Police said the driver of the vehicle, 62-year-old Thomas C. Richardson, died at the scene.
Richardson was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
