RICHMOND, Va. (WAVY) – Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares has joined 24 other states in filing an emergency motion asking the U.S. Supreme Court (SCOTUS) to block the EPA’s new power plant regulations.
Miyares stated in a release the new regulations will be “burdensome” on existing coal, natural gas and oil-fired power plants. The regulation would require fossil fuel power plants to either capture smokestack emissions or to shut down.
“These new EPA regulations hinder American energy production, risking the reliability of our power grid and the livelihoods of countless workers,” Miyares said. “We are seeking relief from the Supreme Court to ensure that American energy needs are met without jeopardizing economic stability.”
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit declined to block the regulation on Friday, July 19.
