Roanoke man wins $1M lottery ticket during stop for an energy drink

CAMPBELL COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – A Roanoke man is taking home a 1 million dollar lottery ticket after stopping for an energy drink.

Nicholas Foxx, of Roanoke, Va. was visiting family when he stopped at A1 MinI Mart at 1308 Main Street in Altavista, to buy an energy drink and some Virginia Lottery scratch-off tickets.

After Foxx scratched the tickets, he found that his 20x the Money ticket was a $1 million winner.

Foxx said, “I thought I was reading it wrong!” he told Lottery officials. “You don’t know anyone who’s hit the Lottery for that amount of money!”

He chose the cash option of $625,000 rather than the option of taking the full $1 million prize over 30 years.

Any store that sells a $1 million winning ticket will receive a bonus of $10,000 from the Virginia Lottery.

There have been 4 top prizes in 20x the Money game which means that two prizes are still unclaimed. Prizes range from $10 to $1 million.

1 in 1,958,400 are the chances of winning the top prize with the chances of winning any prize being 1 in 3.65.

The Virginia Lottery donates all prizes to Virginia School Districts K-12.
