Turkey prices are lower this year than last because of abundant supply. Virginia is one of the top turkey producing states in the U.S.
According to culinary experts, fresh birds usually have a richer flavor because they retain more moisture than frozen turkeys. Fresh birds are also given different feed, or they are pastured and allowed to eat insects, seeds, acorns, and grasses, and what they eat can affect their flavor.
