FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — Virginia State Police is investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred Sunday, March 10, around 3:40 a.m. on I-495 Westbound at the 175-mile marker in Fairfax, near the Eisenhower Avenue Interchange.
30-year-old Gregory B. Bruington Jr. of Newport News was changing a tire on a 2017 VW Golf on the left shoulder of I-495.
26-year-old Carlos L. Nunez Morales ran off the interstate and struck Bruington in a 2003 Dodge Ram, police said. Bruington died at the scene. A passenger inside the VW Golf, Hailey A. Frazier, 24, was seriously injured. Frazier was wearing a seat belt at the time.
Nunez Morales suffered minor injuries. He was not wearing a seat belt. Nunez Morales has been charged with driving under the influence, involuntary manslaughter and driving with a suspended or revoked license.
The crash remains under investigation.
