HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Six people are displaced, but safe after a house fire on Wythe Parkway in Hampton on Saturday.
Hampton Fire Rescue said it started on the porch and the fire went all the way to the attic.
Ryan Wynder who was next door said she heard the sound of the firetruck sirens and ran to see what was happening.
“I just see a really big hose, and then I go to the door and I just feel the heat of the fire before I even look over,” said Wynder. “And it’s a really big blaze of fire, and just like coming out of the house.”
Hampton Fire Rescue said when crews arrived everyone was already out of the house.
“We could see this was the porch was on fire, and it was kind of all the way up to the top,” said Andrew Brown, who was in the house next door. “We didn’t know if it was inside or outside at that point, until they started, you know, going into the house and spraying. We could see them spraying out, like, through the windows.”
Brown and Wynder said they were nervous the fire could spread to their house and considered leaving. Hampton Fire and Rescue and the family were seen taking stuff out of the house.
“That’s gotta be devastating. I know I saw somebody out here crying,” said Wynder.
WAVY spoke with the family whose house caught on fire, they said they are sad but grateful everyone is OK.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
