VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – A Virginia Beach man accused of shooting and killing another man on Hunting Horn Way had his arraignment Monday.

Dusan Naumovic is behind bars charged with second degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He is being held without bond.

Police say the shooting happened around 3 a.m. Saturday, March 2.

Responding officers found a man who had been shot to death. Police later identified the man killed as 37-year-old Vinicius Freire Carneiro, of Virginia Beach.

10 On Your Side put in a request to speak to Naumovic, but he denied our request.

Brad Foster says he knows Naumovic and was shocked to see these charges. “I was sitting and apparently the story was on Saturday night, and I don’t know where I came across it; I think I was going through the WAVY mobile app and recognized the face, and so I went and replayed the story,” said Foster.

Foster says he’s known Naumovic for years. “Dusan was recommended to my family a number of years ago and he tutored one of our children for about two and a half years,” he explained.

Foster says he’s hoping to learn more details. “There are so many families we know that loved Dusan and have used him and he’s made such an impact on so many kids that we know of.”

10 On Your Side checked for warrants in this case, however the clerk said they weren’t any available at this time.

Naumovic has a hearing scheduled for March 18 to confirm he hired a lawyer. He also has a preliminary hearing scheduled for May 2.
