CARROLL COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – Virginia State Police are investigating a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 77 North that resulted in the deaths of two men from Ohio.
The crash occurred on Tuesday, Nov. 19 around 2:55 a.m. at mile marker 9 in Carroll County.
34-year-old Nicholas R. Oleski of Cleveland, Ohio, was with a passenger in a 2025 Mercedes-Benz CLA 250 heading north on Interstate 77 when he ran off the left side of the road. Oleski hit the end of a guardrail, spun back onto the interstate, and then collided with a 2019 Ford F250.
After hitting the Ford, the Mercedez spun again into the side of a 2023 Volvo VRN tractor-trailer and then also into a 2025 Peterbilt tractor-trailer before finally coming to a stop off the right side of the interstate.
34-year-old Nicholas R. Oleski, the driver of the Mercedes was taken to the hospital where he later died of his injuries. 34-year-old passenger Justine A. Hitchcock of Cleveland, Ohio, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Both occupants were wearing their seatbelts.
The other drivers and passengers did not present any injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
