NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — One of five suspects who were originally charged in a 2017 homicide is now faced with 15 years in prison.

The Office of the Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney said Ashanta Denise Parker was sentenced to 23 years on Friday, but had 8 years of that time suspended.

Parker had previously pleaded guilty in December to charges including second-degree murder in the shooting death of Pedro Cain in Ocean View.

Prosecutors say Parker is the first of the suspects to have been sentenced. The other four have either pleaded guilty and are facing sentencing or are scheduled to go on trial later this year.

Kevin Demetrius Hill pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and use fo a firearm in a felony in February, and is set for sentencing on May 11. Felicia Lian Ries pleaded guilty to charges including attempted robbery and conspiracy in November; her sentencing is slated for May 18.

Prosecutors say David Barrington and Russell George Barrington have bench trials set for April 26 and June 14, respectively.
