Virginia based Boar’s Head issues recall on multiple products due to possible listeria contamination

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – Virginia based company Boar’s Head is recalling several products due to a possible listeria contamination.

Boar’s Head Provisions Co., headquartered in Jarratt, Virginia, has announced they are recalling all liverwurst products and some deli meat products, as they may be contaminated with listeria monocytogenes. According to the CDC, people who are pregnant, elderly and people with weakened immune systems have a higher risk of serious infection from listeria.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) stated the company is recalling over 200,000 pounds of product as a result of the recall.

The recalled products, produced between June 11, 2024 and July 17, 2024 with a 44-day shelf life, can be found below:

The recalled products were distributed nationwide and shipped to deli retailers with the establishment number “EST. 12612” inside of the USDA mark of inspection label.

A release from the USDA states the issue was discovered when a sample collected by the Maryland Department of Health tested positive for L. monocytogenes. Further testing is required to determine if the sample is related to the outbreak.

Currently, 35 sick people across 13 states have been identified in connection with a multistate outbreak of L. monocytogenes linked to meats sliced at delis, including 33 hospitalizations and two deaths.
