PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – Virginia based company Boar’s Head is recalling several products due to a possible listeria contamination.

Boar’s Head Provisions Co., headquartered in Jarratt, Virginia, has announced they are recalling all liverwurst products and some deli meat products, as they may be contaminated with listeria monocytogenes. According to the CDC, people who are pregnant, elderly and people with weakened immune systems have a higher risk of serious infection from listeria.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) stated the company is recalling over 200,000 pounds of product as a result of the recall.

The recalled products, produced between June 11, 2024 and July 17, 2024 with a 44-day shelf life, can be found below:

  • 3.5 pound loaves in plastic casing, or various weight packages sliced in retail delis, containing “Boar’s Head Strassburger Brank Liverwurst MADE IN VIRGINIA.” Sell by dates range between July 25, 2024, to Aug. 30, 2024
  • 9.5 pound and 4.5 pound full product, or various weight packages sliced in retail delis, containing “Boar’s Head VIRGINIA HAM OLD FASHIONED HAM” with sell by date of Aug. 10
  • 4 pound, or various weight packages sliced in retail delis, containing “Boar’s Head ITALIAN CAPPY STYLE HAM” with sell by date of Aug. 10
  • 6 pound, or various weight packages sliced in retail delis, containing “Boar’s Head EXTRA HOT ITALIAN CAPPY STYLE HAM” with sell by date of Aug. 10
  • 4 pound, or various weight packages sliced in retail delis, containing “Boar’s Head BOLOGNA” with sell by date of Aug. 10
  • 2.5 pound, or various weight packages sliced in retail delis, containing “Boar’s Head BEEF SALAMI” with sell by date of Aug. 10
  • 5.5 pound, or various weight packages sliced in retail delis, containing “Boar’s Head STEAKHOUSE ROASTED BACON HEAT & EAT” with sell be date of Aug. 15
  • 3 pound, or various weight packages sliced in retail delis, containing “Boar’s Head GARLIC BOLOGNA” with sell by date of Aug. 10
  • 3 pound, or various weight packages sliced in retail delis, containing “Boar’s Head BEEF BOLOGNA” with sell by date of Aug. 10

The recalled products were distributed nationwide and shipped to deli retailers with the establishment number “EST. 12612” inside of the USDA mark of inspection label.

A release from the USDA states the issue was discovered when a sample collected by the Maryland Department of Health tested positive for L. monocytogenes. Further testing is required to determine if the sample is related to the outbreak.

Currently, 35 sick people across 13 states have been identified in connection with a multistate outbreak of L. monocytogenes linked to meats sliced at delis, including 33 hospitalizations and two deaths.
