PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — There’s one less option for entertainment in Portsmouth, with the closing and impending demolition of Willett Hall.
The 1,900-seat performing arts center was the place to go for entertainment for decades, but it will soon be center stage for the wrecking ball.
Willett Hall closed in September 2018, but opened to be a polling place in November.
Portsmouth City Council plans on using the site for a new middle school, but there is no timetable on the demolition or the construction of the new school.
Council discussed this closing at its council retreat.
Willett Hall was in bad need of repairs, and it does leave a void in live entertainment centers.
