PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — A viral video of a Virginia State trooper getting hit by a drunk driver is difficult for anyone to watch, but especially for Rose Boone.

Boone’s brother, Craig Boone, the man known as “Bread”, died in October while working for VDOT.

“So some things I just don’t understand and it makes me mad,” Rose said.

She is preparing to come face to face for the first time with the woman charged in her brother’s death.

Police said Alana Diomande was drunk when she ran off the road and sideswiped Craig’s truck, killing him on impact. Diomande is set to go on trial in Hampton in two weeks.

“I don’t want her to ever get out …” Rose said.

With more options than ever to get home safely, Rose said she has no tolerance for those who get behind the wheel of a car impaired. Not only does she feel the pain losing a sibling, she suffered a serious injury at 16. On a Christmas night, a drunk driver hit a car she was in head on.

“And with the injury it caused me — cause my face to be split open on the side where you could either see the inside of my face,” Rose said.

Her face healed, but her heart will forever be broken.

“Please do not drive drunk or high on drugs, please, because the only thing going to happen, they going to cause somebody is they’re to be sad and planning a funeral.”
