Biography: I grew up in Hampton and graduated from Bethel High School then attended Thomas Nelson and earned my Associate Degree. I worked at Hampton Police Division for 15 years as a dispatcher before moving to Surry County where I am now the manager of Farmers United. I am married with two wonderful children and two beautiful grand children.
Why are you running for this office?
We moved to Surry county for the tranquility and beautiful scenery. After attending the Board of Supervisors meetings for several years and listening to the citizens concerns, I felt that the citizens were not being listened to so I decided to run.
What is the most important issue facing the county, and what is your position on it?
There are several important issues but the main one right now is our taxes and budgeting. Over the past five years citizens tax bills have been increasing and I feel as though we are not budgeting the county properly and spending too much of the tax payers money with not much to show for it.
What it the top challenge facing your district, and how would you address it?
I am in the process of speaking to my constituents in my district to find out their concerns.
How do you feel about the politicization of public education?
Our school division is a complicated topic right now. I feel like we need to get back to the basics of teaching and keep politics out of it. Parents need to be more involved in their children’s school systems.
How do you plan to manage growth while also protecting the quality-of-life residents bought into?
In Surry we have two industrial parks that need to be utilized. I would like to focus on these two areas for businesses possibly even a minor emergency center.
What is your view on unlimited campaign contributions? Should that change?
I have no comments on this.
How will you still value constituents and politicians with whom you disagree?
Everybody has their own opinions about topics and it’s great when two different sides can talk about them in a respectful manner. I will always be cordial to someone that disagrees.
