Name: Lisa Fiege

Age: 46

Biography: Born and raised in West Palm Beach, FL. I went to the University of Florida for my undergraduate degree in political science and then Florida State for a master’s degree in political science. I moved to the Eastern Shore of VA in January 2012 with my three-year daughter. My parents had relocated to this area three years prior. In October 2014, I was hired by the Town of Onancock as its administrative assistant. Over my eight years employed with the town I worked my way to office manager, interim town manager, and lastly, director of administration. I left the town’s employ December 2021 to homeschool my daughter and work in my husband’s financial planning practice. He grew up in and has lived in Onancock almost 50 years. Since my time away from Town Hall I have stayed active in several nonprofits in town. I was the board treasurer for the Eastern Shore Coalition Against Domestic Violence, board treasurer and president of Onancock Main Street, board member of the Onancock Farmer’s Market and was recently appointed to the Economic Development Authority of the Town of Onancock.

Why are you running for this office?

My heart belongs to Onancock. This town is such an amazing gem of the Eastern Shore of VA. We have so many things to offer. There are also many amazing nonprofits working to benefit the residents and businesses located in Onancock. The momentum is invigorating. And as a council member I believe I can help bring together all people in the town so that we can create the best possible comprehensive & strategic plans. I want to help make sure that growth in town is done thoughtfully through research based decisions all the while still retaining its small town charm.

What is your view on growth management in your community?

Growth in small towns can be challenging, but done properly can help everyone. I want to work with all residents to make sure our growth is thoughtful and that the small town charm of Onancock is not lost in the growing process.

What is your view on taking money from individuals who will likely have business before the city?

That would be a conflict of interest and not allowed. I am taking very limited campaign contributions anyway; the small campaign is mostly self funded.

How will you still value constituents with whom you disagree with?

All constituents deserve the right to be heard. If a resident or business owner takes the time to reach out to their local governing board they obviously have something weighing on them it is of value to them. I truly believe that most people want what they believe is best for the community, not just themselves. If something is not right for the town, I would encourage residents to reconsider their position based on the best facts and research available.
