Police: Newport News woman arrested for DWI had two children in backseat at the time

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A Newport News woman who was arrested early Sunday morning for driving while intoxicated had two young children in the backseat at the time, according to police.

28-year-old Jessica Quinones, of the 600 block of Hogan Drive, was stopped by police just after 2 a.m. after an officer saw her make a U-turn where a no U-turn sign was posted in the area of Hogan Drive and Jefferson Avenue.

Police say the officer detected the smell of alcohol and Quinones was asked to take field sobriety tests. However she refused to take a breath test.

The officer also discovered two children, 8 and 5 years old, in the backseat and not wearing seatbelts.

She was charged with first offense DWI (blood alcohol level greater than .08), abuse/neglect child: cause serious injury, and DWI: refusal of blood or breath test (1 offense).

Police say the father of her children came to the scene and took custody of the children.
