PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — People finally fed up with crime in their community helped put a Portsmouth murder suspect behind bars.
Portsmouth police arrested 29-year-old Anthony Worlds on Wednesday for the killing of 33-year-old Elbert Brown Jr. on Sunday. Brown was shot several times in the chest on Wilson Drive.
Police walked the neighborhood shortly after, as they have been doing after traumatic events recently.
They call it a RESET (rapid engagement of support in the event of traumatic incidents).
Officers say the community is partnering with police and it’s paying off.
“We talk to the neighbors and a lot of times they provide us with information and when they provide us with that information we treat that kind of like we do the Crime Line tips we treat it very confidential,” said Lt. Bryant Hall.
10 On Your Side found Worlds already has a rap sheet which includes pleading guilty to malicious wounding of a child in 2011 and a shooting in 2015. Those charges were withdrawn.
