6-year-old child among five killed in OBX crash; names released

MANTEO, N.C. (WAVY) — The National Park Service has released the names of the four adults killed in a single-engine airplane crash on the Outer Banks over the weekend. A 6-year-old child also died in the crash.

Around 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept 28, the airplane crashed into a wooded area at Wright Brothers National Memorial’s First Flight Airport.


Eyewitnesses reported that the airplane was attempting to land at the airport before it crashed and caught fire. The Kill Devil Hills Fire Department, along with other local fire departments, responded to the scene and extinguished the fire.

The following people were lost in the crash:

“National Park Service employees at Wright Brothers National Memorial, Cape Hatteras National Seashore and Fort Raleigh National Historic Site (Outer Banks Group) extend their deepest condolences to the families, friends and loved ones affected by this tragedy,” stated David Hallac, superintendent, Outer Banks Group.

Hallac also expressed his appreciation for all of the state and local agencies that responded to the crash.

The crash is being investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board, an independent federal agency charged with investigating civil aviation accidents in the United States.
